Chad Thompson Speaks at KSU

I received my undergraduate degree from Kennesaw State University (KSU), a school well known for its excellence in accounting education. Within the Masters of Accounting program, KSU requires a Forensic Accounting class. I am very happy about this requirement, since I believe all accountants benefit from some level of forensic exposure. I'd really like to see a forensic accounting class become a requirement for sitting for the CPA exam.

I was recently a guest speaker in the class. The class primarily focuses on the fraud detection and prevention side of forensic accounting. However, my speech was geared towards the analytical side of forensics with an emphasis on determining income losses for commercial entities. The students received exposure to making conclusions with limited documentation, identifying red flags within accounting reports, thinking critically about business operations, and how to defend their work product in a court of law.

I have no doubt that we will welcome some of the students into the forensic accounting world. Why am I so confident? My firm's last three hires were KSU graduates that had their interest sparked by the graduate level forensic accounting class. Keep up the great work, Dr. Hermanson!
